A684 extension of road closure until 25th March

Regrettably despite working longer daily hours and weekends the contractor carrying these works has been unable to make up the time lost due to the severe weather conditions the Richmond area experienced for several weeks in the first part of 2026.  Unfortunately, this means that the road will not now reopen until Wednesday 25th March.

Every effort is being made to expedite these works as a priority, and the contractor will continue to work longer hours and extra days to achieve this.   North Yorkshire Council would like to apologise for the unavoidable further delay to this road closure and for any inconvenience this may be causing.

We are arranging for this update to be published via social media and will be asking that whilst the closure is in place we would request that drivers adhere to the official, signed, diversion route and avoid using the minor highway network through villages as these roads are experiencing significant damage due to unsuitable use.
